What Do Members and Distribution Department Do?
NASCAM Members are authors, composers and publishers who’s public performance rights and royalties are managed efficiently. NASCAM can do things that are hard to handle alone, like licensing, tracking the use of member’s works, collecting royalties, and making sure everyone gets what they deserve.
Distribution is how we divide and pay out royalties. Whenever your music is used whether on radio, streaming platforms, TV, or in public spaces we collect the payments from those who use it and distribute the money to our members. Our system is fair, transparent, and built to ensure that creators receive the income they are due.

Eligibility Criteria
To become a member of NASCAM, candidates must meet specific eligibility Requirements;
a) Authors must have created original written works, lyrics, or other literary compositions.
b) Composers should have produced original musical compositions or arrangements.
c) Publishers must be actively involved in the business of publishing copyrighted works.

How to Register as a Member
Becoming a member is easy, and we are here to guide you at every step. Here is a simple process to join:
Step 1 – Are you a author, composer or publisher? If yes, you can join.
Step 2 – Gather your identification Document and evidence of your creative works (like published music).
Step 3 – Submit copies of your documents.
Step 4 – Our team will review your application and documents to confirm your eligibility.
Step 5 – Once approved, you will sign a deed of assignment agreement outlining your rights and obligations.
Step 6 – You are now a member.
Once you have become a member, it’s essential to maintain your membership by:
a) Paying annual fees promptly.
b) Updating NASCAM with new works or changes in professional status.
c) Adhering to the organisation’s rules and regulations.
d) Participating in member meetings i.e. AGM and activities when possible.
Our Distribution Process
Our main goal is to get royalties to you, the right holder, fairly and efficiently. Here is how our distribution process works:
Step 1 – We collect usage data on your works were used (e.g., on radio, streaming, TV, public venues, etc.).
Step 2 – We collect payments from radio stations, streaming services, venues, and other users who play or perform your work.
Step 3 – We match usage data with our database of members and works to ensure everyone gets paid accurately.
Step 4 – Based on usage and contracts, we calculate how much each member should be paid.
Step 5 – Royalties are distributed directly to members’ bank accounts or through other agreed methods, usually on a regular basis (e.g., quarterly).
Step 6 – Members can view detailed statements by collecting a statement from NASCAM office.
Types of Rights We Administer
We manage Performing Rights for our members to make sure you get the most from your creative work for music or works performed in public, on radio, or TV.
Key Words & Definitions
Collective Management Organisation (CMO) – An organisation that manages rights and royalties on behalf of creators and rights holders.
Royalties – Payments made to creators and rights holders when their work is used by others.
Rights Holder – The person or company who owns the legal rights to a creative work.
License – Permission given to someone to use a work in a specific way.
Distribution – The process of paying out royalties to members.
Usage Data – Data showing where and how works are used to ensure accurate royalty collection.
Performing Rights – Rights related to the live or broadcast performance of a work.
Deed of Assignment – A formal agreement through which a rights holder transfers specific rights to the CMO for the purpose of collective administration.
